August is National Shooting Sports Month®, a time to celebrate one of America’s great pastimes — target shooting — a safe, fun activity enjoyed by millions of people across the country, with millions more wanting to take their first shots.

Research by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF®) shows that 24 million Americans are very interested in learning about the shooting sports, making National Shooting Sports Month the perfect time for someone to give target shooting a try. There are dozens of sports from which to choose, from hitting steel targets with handguns and rifles to breaking clay targets in the shotgun sports of trap, skeet and sporting clays.
“One of the many people interested in trying target shooting may well be in your family — a daughter, son or spouse — or a friend just waiting for you to ask them to spend a day at the range,” said NSSF’s Zach Snow, Director of Shooting Range Services. “Extend that invitation — you’ll be glad you did.”
Hundreds of people stopped by to visit our booth during the annual Monument 4th of July parade and street fair.
“It was a beautiful day celebrating our country with family and friends,” says Mike Axelrod, owner of Gun Cleaners of Colorado.
“We were there to let people know about our ‘Clean it for a Cop’ program. We accepted donations and folks gave their pocket change! Enough was collected for FIVE sponsored cleanings for law enforcement officers’ service firearms.
“My favorite part of the day was getting to display my 1942 WWII jeep in our booth after the parade. Kids (and a lot of adults) sat in it, put on a hat or helmet, and took pictures.
“We’ll be back again in 2020!”
Look for our 1942 WWII jeep in the Monument 4th of July parade! The jeep will be in our booth (2nd street, right-hand side as you enter the street fair) after the parade for photos. Gun Cleaners of Colorado is proud to support local law enforcement.
“Anyone can sponsor a cleaning for a law enforcement officer’s service weapon through our “Clean it for a Cop” initiative,” says Mike Axelrod, owner of Gun Cleaners of Colorado.
“It’s easy. Community members may purchase a Clean it for a Cop Gift Card for $25,” explains Mike.
“They can give the gift card to a law enforcement officer they know for use.
Or, they can designate a law enforcement agency–like Palmer Lake, Monument, or the Colorado Springs police department, for example–of their choice.
We’ll let the station know that a member of the community has sponsored a cleaning for an officer.
And the best part, Clean it for a Cop gift cards never expire.”

It’s always great to support firearm organizations like the NRA (National Rifle Association) and FNRA (Friends of the National Rifle Association) that promote responsible gun ownership.

Gun Cleaners of Colorado is a proud supporter of the Friends of the National Rifle Association (FNRA). At the 2019 Colorado Springs FNRA annual banquet held on February 22 at the Hotel Elegante Conference and Event Center, Gun Cleaners of Colorado sponsored a table and donated three gift certificates for gun cleaning.
We all had a great time at the event! One of our table guests even won a firearm – a Glock!

“The previous owner, Lenny Piazza, ran a great shop, ” says Mike Axelrod, owner of Gun Cleaners of Colorado. “His store was in a small shopping center on Centennial in the Springs. I knew that moving Gun Cleaners of Colorado to a location easily accessible from I-25 would be convenient for more customers.”

The new location, right on Highway 105 in Palmer Lake, has more visibility. “I have people coming in every day now who see our sign on the building. They come in to check us out,” says Mike.
“What we do — professional ultrasonic cleaning — is pretty cool. A lot of those folks come back with a firearm they want to be cleaned. Sometimes they come back that very day!
